Cyclist and Pedestrian Rules and Regulations.

October 1, 2020 by Arrowhead At Vail

Dear Arrowhead Homeowner,

In July we shared with you, for comment, a proposed Rule and Regulation focused on bicyclist, pedestrian and hiker safety in Arrowhead. We appreciate all the constructive comments and suggestions for improving and clarifying the document. Our priority is to ensure the continuation of the privacy and safety of Arrowhead residents and their families as they enjoy the active lifestyle of Arrowhead. We have incorporated many of your suggestions in the final Policy and Procedure approved in a Resolution by the AVA Board on September 28, 2020. A copy of the Resolution and the Codes that will be used or posted in the Community are attached

Addressing one particular important area of comment regarding what side of the street pedestrians should walk or run. In Arrowhead it is appropriate to walk or run facing traffic except on Cresta Road. We asked a traffic and roadway consultant to advise the Board on the safest method for bicyclist and pedestrians to ascend and descend Cresta Road. We are following the consultant’s recommendation that pedestrians and runners use the uphill lane to ascend and descend Cresta. Bicyclist should use Cresta by traveling with vehicular traffic. New striping and guidance symbols known as “sharrow signs” will be added to the roadway pavement in the spring/summer of 2021.

We will continue our philosophy of limited use of rules for Arrowhead except as required for the safety, and well-being of our homeowners and visitors, and the preservation of the exclusivity of Arrowhead. We appreciate your input and feedback.
